On average, grid-connected solar power plants pay back in 2–7 years. The exact period depends on the cost of the equipment, electricity tariffs, region, level of solar generation, and terms of the "green" tariff.
To apply for a "green" tariff, you usually need: the owner's passport and identification code; documents proving ownership of a house or land plot; technical conditions from the power grid operator; act of commissioning the solar power plant; agreement with the power supplier.
No, a classic grid-connected solar power plant automatically shuts down when the grid goes out for safety reasons. To have electricity during outages, a hybrid or stand-alone system with batteries is required.
Solar panels last an average of 25–30 years, with manufacturers usually guaranteeing at least 80% of their initial capacity after 25 years. Inverters have a service life of 10–15 years, depending on operating conditions.
Solar generation decreases in cloudy weather and in winter, but panels continue to produce energy even in diffused light. Efficiency also depends on the angle of inclination, installation direction and lack of shading.
